NASCAR x Ally Racing x Unrivaled | Alex Bowman #48 Race Car + Livery Design
Sports illustrator, graphic designer, and art director Sophia Chang was commissioned to design a custom race car kit for NASCAR driver Alex Bowman and the Ally Racing No. 48. The project included the complete race car wrap and livery, racing firesuit, and helmet design.
The collaboration connected NASCAR and women’s professional basketball through Ally’s support of Unrivaled, the player-owned 3-on-3 women’s basketball league co-founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. The project brought motorsports, women’s sports, athlete partnerships, and sponsorship creative together through a highly visible cross-sport brand collaboration.
Sophia attended the race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, experiencing the design in competition from the pit box alongside Unrivaled co-founder Napheesa Collier.
The project expanded Sophia’s sports design practice into motorsports, combining race car livery design, sports illustration, graphic design, athlete partnerships, sponsorship creative, women’s basketball, experiential, and cultural storytelling across the car, driver apparel, and racing environment.
